INTERCEDE COMMUNITY PROJECT This outreach started at a company in the Airport Industrial area in Cape Town. When staff were being mugged regularly, and vandalism on the increase, Intercede was birthed by one person who saw some potential in one child scratching in a rubbish bin. Now, every friday, children from 1 - 16 years of age, come to our offices, we give them food parcels, assist in cleaning them, and teaching them skills and mentoring. Ever since mid 2007 we started with this outreach program it just grew in a instant, and we are now feeding and mentoring at least 300 kids. Most of these kids are scantily dressed and begging on the streets in the industrial area. The main townships where the children come from is the Europe(Khayelitsha) / Langa and the Gugulethu area. We also get some help from another Youth Outreach group, called "Eagles Rising'. They are xhosa speaking and help tremendously with the language and also mentor and equip the children with life-skills. We have found a piece of land in their township area where we will be able to build a daycare centre for these children and are still in need of some donations towards this project and also the weekly running of the Friday afternoon programme. If you would like to donate food/hygeine products/clothing or money towards this project: please contact us at lovetogive@heatherwaters.co.za PURELIFESTYLE WATER COMPANY From Somerset West, generously supplied 300 bottles of water to the children and their families. ENTERPRISE MEATS donated 300 vienna packs, water drinking bottles, and pencil cases to the children. We were priviledged to transport and deliver these gifts to the excited children at the Project during their end of year function: Carols by Candlelight Concert. (see Gallery) |
